About My Collection
I started as an "official" collector around 1989 when I found out that a few of the cars that I had as a kid were worth big bucks! I about had a cow! I still had a majority of the cars that I had as a kid and all of them in excellent shape. Most of them being redlines, I found that I was sitting on a potential gold mine. Who 'da thunk it!?
That summer I had bought about three hundred cars with the intent of one day selling them to self fund the hobby. Shortly after that I was married and dropped the hobby all together (it happens.) I picked it back up again almost ten years later in 1998. Being out of the loop for so long, I missed out on some major changes in the Hot Wheels arena. I have a lot of catching up to do, and am having a blast doing it.
What I mainly collect are spectraflame redlines, first editions, "collectibles," and anything "Twin Mill." After all, I have to draw the line somewhere. I do buy some of the series sets, but for resale only.
My Diecast Database
I developed a database in Microsoft Access to track my collection. It's primary purpose is to keep an accurate record of what I want to sell and trade, and then I export the reports to HTML so that I may post them on my web site. I originally used Mattel's Interactive Database, but it was slow and cumbersome. Plus, all it is designed to track is Hot Wheels. Although I mainly collect Hot Wheels, I do have a variety of cars by other manufactures. This is why I came up with this database. I am sure that it could use some improvement, but it works for what I need it to do.
I have a blank version of the database for you to download and try if you like. It is in a zip file, so if you need a zip program, get it here. Keep in mind that you will need Microsoft Access 2000 in order to use it. Let me know if you encounter any problems using the database. I will try to have them resolved. 488kb

Here is an exhaustive list of Hot Wheels that I downloaded from Mattel's service center website. It has all the cars listed from 1968 to 2003. It lists every car imaginable, everything from Rrrumblers to NASCAR. It is handy to have especially if you want to collect everything Hot Wheels. 110kb
The list is in an Adobe Acrobat format, so you will have to download the reader if you don't already have it.
